Collector verifications

In order to verify the quality and performance capacity of solar collectors, we offer the following tests according to ÖNORM EN ISO 9806 and EN 12075-1:

Internal pressure verification of the absorber
The collector (or absorber) must undergo a pressure verification in order to evaluate the extent to which it can resist the pressure occurring during operation. The verification pressure corresponds to 1.5 times the maximum authorised collector operating pressure indicated by the manufacturer. The absorber is examined during the application of this pressure with regard to density, bulging and distortion.

High temperature resistance
This verification quickly determines whether a collector is able to resist high levels of irradiance without significant damage being caused as a result of broken glass, broken collector covers, the emission of collector materials or the melting of seals. After the collector has reached stationary conditions,  it is irradiated for an hour with an irradiance of > 1,000 Wm-2 and then examined for any damage.

Reliability verification (exposure verification)
The solar collector is exposed to irradiation of 14 MJm-2 in the open air without being filled with heat carriers for at least 30 days. Irradiance of 850 Wm-2 must prevail for at least 30 hours. Upon completion of the verification, a visual inspection is carried out on the collector to identify any damage.

Rapid changes in external temperature
Solar collectors may be exposed to occasional sudden rain showers on hot sunny days which cause significant external temperature changes. This verification evaluates the capacity of a solar collector to resist such rapid changes in temperature. The solar collector is exposed for at least an hour to a high level of irradiance (> 850 Wm-2) and is then sprayed for 15 min. with cold water. The solar collector has to be exposed to two rapid external temperature changes.

Rapid changes in internal temperature
Solar collectors may be exposed to occasional sudden inflowing cold heat carriers on hot sunny days which cause significant internal temperature changes. The collector is exposed for an hour to a high level of irradiance (> 850 Wm-2) and is then cooled for at least 5 minutes with a cold heat carrier.

Performance short-time test
A shortened performance test is offered at an economical price for development and optimisation work on solar collectors. The efficiency characteristics are determined on the basis of 5 measurement points.

Performance tests are carried out in favourable weather conditions on the outdoor test bed and in unfavourable weather conditions on the indoor test bed.
